RISE (Reaching Independence through Support and Enrichment) is a partnership between the YWCA Metro St. Louis and Family Resource Center intended to improve St. Louis' school children's academic and social outcomes.The project is guided and supported by a joint effort of the St. Louis Mental Health Board and the St. Louis Public Schools.

GoalsWe intend that the majority of children in RISE will achieve one or more of the following:• Improved academic performance• Improved pro-social behaviorsApproachThe RISE curriculum will focus on the following areas of children’s development:• Academic enrichment and tutoring• Community involvement and social skill building• Emotional and character development• Nutrition and physical fitness activities• Parental engagement to support children’s learningParticipantsChildren and families who attend one of the schools listed will be selected to participate by the school principal/staff. Enrollment is limited.StaffAll staff in the RISE After School Program are trained, educated and qualified in child development and mental health services. RISE staff receive training upon starting with the program and attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year, in addition to maintaining CPR certifications. Every site is staffed by one Program Supervisor, 3-4 Program Assistants, and a Family Therapist/Counselor , achieving or exceeding a 1:10 adult-to-child ratio. FeesThe RISE program is funded through a combination of sources with lead support from the St. Louis Mental Health Board and the Department of Health, Division of Social Services. With additional contributions from the YWCA, Family Resource Center, and the families we serve, the RISE program is able to offer some of the highest quality after school services in the region. Program fees vary per site and per each family’s economic circumstances. A sliding fee scale is available and qualifying families are strongly encouraged to enroll or register with DSS in order to minimize their costs. LocationsScruggs Elementary - 4611 S. Dismissal times will be extended for additional activities and parent workshops scheduled throughout the year.Nance & Lexington Elementary: 3:10 pm - 6:15 pmScruggs Elementary: 4:10 pm - 6:15 pmAdditional information• Children are expected to attend a minimum of 4 days a week for the full program day.• Registration is required annually.• Well-balanced snacks are provided daily at no additional cost to participants.• Parents/caregivers are expected to pick-up, or make arrangements for a qualified person to pick up children at the end of the program day.• Children will not be released unattended and transportation is not available.
